The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) has bought its chief rivals, Time Warner's World Championship Wrestling and Paul Heyman's Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). As part of a unique marketing plan, Vince planned an elaborate 'Invasion" story line, pitting himself against the plans of his children Shane, who has "bought" WCW and Stephanie, who "bought" ECW. Paul Heyman has been kept as an 'creative advisor' and works as a liason between the McMahons and the WEWC talent.

The grand plan was for the WWF to "win" a battle royale at an pay-per-view wrestling event called 'Invasion', where Vince would then take total control of his children's company. But due to some back room politicking and other machinations by both Superstars and the McMahon siblings, instead of the WWF winning Invasion, the combined WCW/ECW faction won, insuring their continued existence.

Now the three stables exist separately as part of the WWF Entertainment conglomerate. The 'Invasion' story line continues, with members of each "faction' often appearing on the other's televised programming, as well as sharing several Pay-Per-Veiw Events. WWF is still based out of Titan Tower in Stamford, CT. ECW still films its Saturday night broadcast from the ECW Arena in Philadelphia. WCW's Nitro and Thunder are taped on the same nights as RAW and Smackdown. Heat and Velocity are now joint broadcasts, featuring Invasion based storylines. Each "promotion" has it's own championships for men and women. The highest ranking, high profile 'main eventers' also have additional 'duties' associated with their roles, especially those who happen to hold belts or are in the thick of the title hunt. The additional 'income' helps keep the company's profit margins up, as well as bank-roll some of the McMahons' more exotic 'past-times'.
